Ola

Ola, my dear LaLa, let me tell you the remarkable story of how you came to be the newest member of our cherished family at Pay & Friends Inc. It’s a tale filled with love, anticipation, and the joy of new life.

It all began when I rescued your mama, Little Lady, who was pregnant with you. It felt like a miraculous two-for-one deal – not just one life saved, but two. As the months passed, I watched with bated breath as your mama’s belly grew and the signs of your impending arrival became more apparent. Her darkening face, changing fur color, and swelling udders were all signs that the moment we had been waiting for was drawing near.

Then, one early November day, as I went to check on the gang, I noticed something different. Little Lady was nowhere to be found among the crowd clamoring for treats. Instead, she was at the far end of the field, tending to you, her precious newborn. I hurried over to meet you, and there you were, a tiny bundle of perfection, with your big brown eyes and serene demeanor, resembling a baby deer in the meadow.

As I marveled at your beauty, it struck me that your name should reflect the miracle of your birth. And so, Ola, meaning “a life saved or spared” in Hawaiian, became your fitting moniker.

But despite being there from the moment you entered the world, our bond wasn’t quite what I expected. Unlike the others, who saw me as their mama because I fed them bottles, you viewed me with a bit of apprehension. Yet, over time, you learned to trust me, and our connection deepened.

One of the most remarkable moments of our journey together was when, during a bitter cold winter, I discovered you nursing from Little Lady once again. It was evidence of your mama’s incredible instincts and love for you, providing you with the nourishment you needed to thrive in the harsh conditions.

And now, here you are, big and strong, a testament to the resilience of life and the power of love. You may be a bit shy around me, preferring the gentle brush of your head to treats and feedings, but that’s okay. Our bond may be different from what I imagined,  but it’s no less special.

Ola, you are a cherished member of our family, a reminder of the miracles that surround us every day. I love you more than words can express, my sweet, sweet Ola.

Ola is the baby of the bunch and adored by all her aunties and one uncle at Pay and Friends Inc. While the others love their produce treats like carrots, potatoes, lettuce, and berries, Ola remains loyal to her green grass hay and alfalfa. Being the youngest, she often eats last, waiting her turn in the herd hierarchy, but we always make sure to toss her a dedicate flake of hay just for her. She jumps for joy running to it! Ola loves playing with large animal toys and is always hoping for new ones. She especially enjoys having her head brushed, though her horns wear down brushes quickly. Ola would love extra brushes and toys from her human friends. Click here to donate to Ola’s care and toy chest.
